Nondisclosed contents of Mega Bloks

To name my Mega Blok sculptures, I tried to find the type of plastic involved in the production of Mega Bloks, but discussions online had no decided answer. After emailing lots of Mattel contact emails politely requesting the details, the Spanish Mattel service team replied with this email:

Nondisclosed contents, Mattel

I find it interesting that Mattel don’t want to disclose the type of plastic, even though companies such as LEGO do. LEGO is known to be made of injection-moulded ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) plastic. An online discussion has included comments that Mega Bloks act more like they are made of a substance like polyethylene or polypropylene.

This email has made me want to research more about secrecy of companies and disclosure of children’s materials. Perhaps they would be easier to replicate if the materials were stated, but this seems strange to me given that they are a children’s toy, thus being something which parents may want to know more about.
