Textiles – ‘Location, Location, Location’

For my final project in the exploratory stage of the course I have chosen to try textiles before specialising so that I have tried one of each of the subject areas. As I was preparing my Ruskin portfolio last week (stress!) I only have one week to complete this project so will have to work extra hard in order to complete all of the work.

After reading the project brief I have found that this project requires me to visit a location and take a series of photographs, from which I will use the textures and colours to create some A4 studies and influence my weaving. I have taken some photos and chosen some of my favourites to print and mount.

Below are my photographs of the area around Oxford Brookes University. I tried to capture interesting textures and close-ups, making familiar objects seem less familiar and looking at areas which wouldn’t usually be observed closely. I like the prominent oranges, greens and blues seen in my photo series.  I also focused on water droplets and reflections as these provided interesting shapes.
